Hoodia Review - Does Hoodia Work For Weightloss?

Obesity is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular morbidity and mortality in the developed world. Whilst some cases are primarily due to genetics, majority of the obesity cases are due to lifestyle factors. Over-eating and a sedentary life has resulted in an explosion of this pandemic globally. A panacea for obesity has been the holy grail for many pharmaceutical companies the world over. The weightloss industry is set to be a 150 billion dollar industry in the coming years.

Whilst there is no denying the fact that exercise and a good diet remains the cornerstone for arresting the spread of obesity there is also a definite role for weightloss medications as an add-on measure for the many who just cannot get rid of excess fat. There are several weightloss medications that have been tested and tried. Some have fallen by the wayside and some are still struggling to establish a foothold. One of the major hurdles in developing a medication for effective and safe weightloss seems to be the areas of the brain that are involved in the phenomenon of obesity. The Hypothalamus is the center for hunger, appetite and satiety. A drug that effectively works at the hypothalamic level is bound to also have additional side effects. At a peripheral level a drug can inhibit the absorption of dietary fat in the intestines much like the prescription drug Xenical does. Whatever the weightloss medication there seems to be side effects with all of them. One must remember that weightloss cannot be achieved overnight and is not possible with just some designer drugs. Weightloss needs a coordinated approach directed towards calorie intake, exercise and possibly medications.

This post is primarily directed towards one product that has created a stir in the obesity segment. Hoodia is the latest catch-phrase in the weightloss industry today and many people are already hooked onto its amazing ability to suppress appetite. Long-term studies are necessary before one can conclusively label it as the 'miracle pill' for weightloss.

What exactly is Hoodia? Hoodia is a succulent plant growing in the arid Kalahari Desert in South Africa. For centuries the San Bushmen have been chewing on this plant to suppress appetite and thirst while on hunting expeditions and in times of food scarcity. Hoodia has the ability to fool your brain into believing that you are full and helps you to stay full faster!

How exactly does Hoodia work? The Hypothalamus in the human brain has nerve cells that are stimulated by glucose molecules. These cells are stimulated every time we eat and then they switch off the center for hunger leading to a feeling of fullness. Hoodia is 100000 times more powerful than Glucose and the result is that it fools these nerve cells into believing that you are full even though you have not eaten and nor do you want to eat! Hoodia works by suppressing appetite naturally.

How safe is Hoodia? The majority of the available weightloss drugs have either fallen by the wayside or have been limited in their use because of potentially harmful side effects. Hoodia is 100% natural, 100% ephedrine-free, 100% Caffeine-free and has no synthetic agents. Hoodia is not a stimulant and is not known to be associated with any unwanted effects. The bushmen of Kalahari do mention that Hoodia has got some aphrodisiac properties.

How effective is Hoodia? While it is too early to say about the effectiveness of Hoodia one can safely say that any weightloss medication that is deemed to be free from harmful side effects would be an ideal one. Effectiveness comes next. Hoodia may work right away or may take some weeks to show its effects. However one must remember that an effective weightloss regime must include diet control, exercise and medications because Obesity is multifactorial and a multi-dimensional approach is the best.

A word of caution: There are several fake Hoodias doing the rounds and one must not be fooled into buying these fakes. Of the several species of Hoodia, only Hoodia Gordonii subspecies seems to have the appetite suppressant effects. Hoodia is only grown in South Africa and it takes almost 4-5 years for the plant to mature. These plants then have to be processed into a more consumer-friendly preparation like pills or liquid. The active ingredient of Hoodia that seems to suppress appetite is a molecule identified by Phytopharm Laboratories is p57. Pfizer was initially involved with Phytopharm to isolate this molecule but gave up half way because of the impossibilities encountered. Currently available commercial preparations are basically an extract of the plant in the processed form and is not the isolated p57 moiety.

To summarize:

1. Hoodia reduces the interest in food.

2. Hoodia delays the time after eating before hunger sets in again.

3. Hoodia causes a sense of fullness.

4. Hoodia increases the general well-being.

5. Hoodia seems to be safe and effective at weightloss.

6. Genuine Hoodia should be sought for and fakes should be avoided.

7. The safety and effectiveness of Hoodia has been documented in '60 minutes' on CBS and on BBC networks.

How Coaching Provides Men With Successful Weightloss Solutions

More and more men are discovering that coaching is an amazingly effective method for losing weight. The outstanding successes recorded show that specialized weight loss coaching is fast becoming the preferred option for men looking to achieve their desired shape.

Up until recently, there have been very limited choices available for men. Most weightloss programmes are predominantly run by women, for women. The thought of attending a meeting full of women discussing their dietary problems or having a humiliating public weigh-in, sends shivers of horror through a lot of men. Other alternatives include specific calorie-counting diets, or supplement regimes which mean men are often left to follow these in isolation, relying only on their self-motivation, without any specialist support. Quite often they are inflexible and do not allow for social occasions, business lunches, entertaining etc. drawing attention to the individual's efforts to lose weight and making it even more difficult to stick to.

Historically gyms and health clubs were the only realistic and acceptable options men felt were available to them for achieving their health goals, even if these didn't fill them with motivation. The thought of exercising amongst younger, fitter men often put them off before they started , as the memories of how fit they used to be are brought back to them so vividly. In the UK 46% of men are over weight, so clearly the traditional options are not inspiring the majority of men looking to achieve a better body image.

So why has coaching become men's preferred method for achieving weightloss?

Negative eating habits are formed in childhood. Boys and young men are often treated differently from their female counterparts. Well meaning mothers and other family members often enjoy watching young men eating a hearty meal, encouraging them by giving them larger portions or offering second helpings. They were encouraged to 'eat up as you're a growing lad' or 'you need to build your strength up' or 'its great that you have such a healthy appetite'.

These behaviour patterns may not have seemed harmful then, when as young, active men they were able to burn the extra calories off without much effort, perhaps through sporting activities, going to the gym or walking more. Even when they start work and their lifestyles change, their youthful metabolism still masks potential problems with their diet.

The problems tend to start when these habits are carried through into middle age when due to less activity, driving, sedentary careers, men start to find that the calories that they were used to burning off are no longer as easy to shift. Unfortunately, this is not a subject that is brought up in general conversations amongst men. Although many would like to address their negative eating habits, they are unable to voice them. Often a few extra pounds are shrugged off as muscle, almost as a status symbol of an extravagant lifestyle, or even admired by some.

However, coaching has quietly been gaining increasing popularity within the male population as the favoured choice to help them achieve their weightloss goals.

The very nature of coaching - confidential, one-to-one sessions, on the telephone, with a non-judgmental supporter solely concerned in assisting you achieve your weightloss plan - has become extremely appealing to many. Having a highly-skilled, specialist coach to whom you are accountable to for your progress ensures that motivation and progress is sustained in the steps to losing weight. All these are benefits, which easily fit around other lifestyle commitments, are irresistible to men who have not been inspired by the traditional methods available. By dealing with some of the deep rooted habits around food, individuals are able to take control and make positive, empowering choices to ensure sustained weightloss, in total privacy.

By increasing their self-awareness and regaining a better balance they are also able to go to the pub, enjoy business lunches, or indulge in their favourite snacks without the feeling of guilt that usually follows. In fact, they don't have to publicize the steps they are taking to lose weight to anyone. Only when their family, friends and colleagues notice the huge improvements taking place to their weight, health and fitness will anything become apparent.

The enormous benefits open to men have meant trends now show that weightloss coaching is rapidly growing in popularity and has at last given men a highly-effective solution to losing weight in an environment that meets all their needs.

Extreme Fast Weightloss Solutions - Do They Really Work?

Apparently, people want to get thin, and they want to get thin NOW. This is the reason why there are so many extreme fast weightloss solutions being touted about in the World Wide Web and beyond. Most of these products are herbal remedies that advertise themselves as extreme fat burners, "guaranteed" to burn off layers of excess adipose tissues. Others are cream-like, or clear liquid preparations that could be applied on the skin that should penetrate through the epidermis and melt away trouble areas (especially handy if your trouble areas are relegated to one or two body parts only.) And others still are stronger medications that are supposed to speed up your metabolism, helping you burn off unwanted calories even when you rest. In any case, with so many extreme fast weightloss solutions to choose from, it's easy to get lost in the promises of instant thinness. But do they really work?

The truth is: these extreme fast weightloss solutions do work... sometimes and only for a certain group of people. More often than not, they don't. Here's why:

People are built differently - from the inside and out. The same way that your brown hair is not the same shade as your neighbor's brown hair; people have varying internal constitutions and outward appearances. This means that your metabolism differs greatly from all the other people in this planet. The time it takes for you to shed off excess adipose tissue is also unique, as with what kind of food makes you gain weight fast.

Over-the-counter extreme fast weightloss solutions are basically generalized preparations created to aid specific groups of people with specific problems. For example, herbal remedies for fat burning works well with people who respond to herbal remedies, who sheds fat with ease, and who do have fats to burn in the first place. Anyone else who falls short of these 3 categories will most likely find themselves on the shorter end of the weight loss stick.

The cream-like or clear liquid extreme fast weightloss solutions might work for a few people, especially those who do not have sensitive skin; who can tolerate skin applications of this kind; and who wants to trim off only one or two parts of their bodies, like flabby arms or jiggling thighs. The stronger medications for metabolic aid, is only applicable to people who respond well to strong preparations, and who have no problem with drastic internal bodily changes.

Besides, according to health experts and medical professionals, extreme fast weightloss solutions are usually not safe to try on your own. Losing too much weight in a very short amount of time is bound to lead to other health concerns like failing internal organs or suffering from the effects of mineral and vitamin deprivation. In short, the body literally shuts down due to starvation.

This is primarily the reason why safe weight loss program is usually deigned specifically for one person alone, taking account of the person's specific medical and nutritional needs and capabilities. Admittedly, this kind of weight loss program does take a longer time to complete, but the results are more permanent and safer to continue in the end.

LA Weightloss Program - Is it Right For You?

The current demand for weightloss programs and products are at its highest point in recent history. This is mainly because of people who spend most of their time working and running different errands they have to finish. The age of information technology is upon us and because information can now be sent around the globe in a blink of the eye, people tend to adjust to move just as fast. Industries also change to coup with this fast pace including the food industry, and the result is unhealthy junk food and an obesity rate rising faster than oil prices. Obesity is at an all time high and it is plaguing a lot of people, hence the demand for weightloss products, which can guarantee a person with fast and efficient results.

A lot of so called magic pills and exercise machines have come out because of the need to become healthy and stay healthy. However, these products do not always work. But one weightloss program realizes that there is no one solution for everyone's problem. This program is called La weightloss program.

The La weightloss program is a centre-based program, which aims to reduce calorie intake of its members with the use of nutrition bars and counselling. They have clinics worldwide where they start off by giving a free assessment to a possible member and a program is then designed for the member. The program consists of weekly visits from a trainer, virtual trainer that shows proper exercise, online support groups and more importantly, their nutritional bars and supplements. Then, you get your own personal counsellor who not only provides you with the program but also acts as your own personal motivator (or cheering section if you will). It is more than a diet, it is a way to change your lifestyle which is the actual key to becoming healthy and staying healthy. However, is La weightloss program right for you?

The person who can answer that is yourself and not anyone else. If you believe in the La weightloss program given to you and follow it, you can achieve your goals. The back draw however, the nutritional bars and supplements of the La weightloss program which is said to be essential with the program are not cheap. It could reach up to a thousand dollars or more. Add to that the fact that there was a case wherein the company was sued because the program did not work. The company was then fined with $100,000 because of the mishap. The reason behind could be because the personal counsellors are paid by commission on the number of nutritional bars and supplements they are able to sell their clients. This is a problem because it gives rise to a conflict of interest and the counsellor could give a faulty program.

The cost of the program becomes the actual motivation of the member. The motivation to become healthy should be just that, to have a healthier lifestyle and live better. La weightloss program could be for you, if you can afford it.
